Accommodations

Toilet of Herods palace.jpgAs Jerusalem provides a large selection of hotels and hostels, we decided to leave the choice of where to stay with you. However, we do recommend booking at one of the hotels or hostels recommended on this site, which are all in walking distance from the site.

All of the hotels are also quite central, and both the old and the new city are close-by. There are also several churches and synagoges in the vicinity.

Bookings can be done by e-mail; don`t forget to mention that you are participating in the Mt Zion Excavation. Please let us know in your application where you have booked.

Beit Shmuel offers hostel rooms with bathroom for four persons at a regular price of $201 per person per week, which we recommend for students. Single or double rooms are also available, either in hostel or in hotel standard; and breakfast boxes are provided. For more information and bookings, please visit http://www.beitshmuel.com/english/.

Eldan Hotel (http://www.eldan.co.il/), which offers car rentals as well, is about 15 minutes from the site. Rooms are available for up to three persons (US$ 170 per room and night), as well as singles or doubles   (US$ 140/150). Breakfast boxes will be included in the price. For further information or reservations, please contact Keren.

If you are looking for a low-budget place to stay, you might like to try the Citadel Hostel. Private roomsusually cost up to $ 25 (but prices rise much higher during holidays), and dormitories are available but not recommended for dig participants, since you will have to get up very early in the morning, while your roommates might still want to sleep. There is no breakfast, but a communal kitchen for your use. Please mention in your room request if you want to have a private bathroom.

A listing of other Jerusalem hostels can be found at http://www.hostels.com/en/il.je.html

We can also recommend the Mount Zion Hotel: http://www.mountzion.co.il/index.html; please note that there is no special arrangement for Mt Zion team members yet at the Mt Zion Hotel, but further information will be available here soon.
