DIG MT. ZION NEWS ALERT Summer of 2018
In order to prepare for a full and expanded excavation in 2019, the Directors of the Mt. Zion dig have decided to take a hiatus from full-scale digging in 2018. There will be some work but only on a very small scale in order to complete the excavation of a few unfinished features from last season as well as to sort post-excavation materials.
This decision was made for two very important reasons:
First, the Israel Antiquities Authority has requested that the Mt. Zion expedition demonstrate progress with the publication of final excavation reports. As a result, the main focus of the 2018 season will be on organizing all of the excavated materials, with key staff members working on preparing their reports for publication.
Second, we will be creating a more permanent headquarters in Jerusalem with a relocation to a new property nearby! Final negotiations are underway and moving should commence early in the new year. More news will be shared about this exciting development once all plans are finalized.
This is an amazing time for Dig. Mt. Zion – publications, a new headquarters, an expanded excavation in 2019 – and all supported by our sponsors, donors and volunteers (through the dig fees). We are proud and honored to be such an integral part of the history of Jerusalem and we so look forward to seeing you all in 2019.
